What is the "10 and under initiative" and how does "progressive tennis" work?
-
"10 and under initiative" Westchase Junior Tennis uses the QuickStart Tennis play format, a new and better introduction to youth tennis. Balls are slower and lower in compression, giving kids time to get to the ball and develop optimal swings. Racquets are sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover. Westchase’s Junior Tennis program follows the same logic as other youth sports like baseball or soccer. We use kid-sized courts and kid-sized equipment. The benefits are immediate. Within an hour your child will be rallying, having fun and be psyched for more. We’re playing real tennis and having real fun.
-
"Progressive Tennis" The USTA has done a great job of marketing the "10 and under initiative". What they found out through this concept is that everyone can benefit - not just the young players. The novice player starts out on the "Red Ball" court and progresses to the "Yellow Ball" court by learning the proper skill sets and gaining experience. With older children or even adults we can progress through the courts within one clinic. This definately makes learning tennis enjoyable, fun and easy for everyone.

How do I get my child into the WJTA? Contact Coach Mike for an assessment. This will take about an hour and involves taking a video footage of the 7 Major Strokes, completing a "Skills Test" and filling out a "Player Profile Sheet".
What is the WJTA philosophy? "Everybody says be natural. . . . . Nearly everything I've seen about tennis that's natural is wrong." - Vic Braden. Our program is not based on any one pro's philosophy or what they think is happening on the court, Our program is based on the dimensions of the court and physical laws - Science.
Players with high asperations purchase a Tennis Training DVD. This DVD is a production based on their strokes. We use slow-motion to go through each strokes "check points" systematicallly. DVD training is a must for accelerated learning at any age.

All Westchase Tennis program participants must be registered and tuition paid in advance of session start to participate in the programs at Westchase. Payment must be made in person at the Countryway Swim & Tennis Center and can be made by personal check or credit card.
* During the first 2 weeks of the current session current participants have priority sign up for the next session. During weeks 3 & 4 the enrollment is open to the public. Any junior tennis player joining the WJTA for the first time should contact Coach Mike for a complimentary assessment which includes video taping the six major strokes, a skills test and a profile sheet.
